Our roots trace back to 1995, when Nicaragua witnessed the birth of its Spanish language school industry with the establishment of Nicaragua Spanish Schools (NSS) by American entrepreneur Paul Martin. As the founder, Paul pioneered Spanish language education in Nicaragua, opening schools in emerging tourist destinations like Granada and Estelí. NSS’s early success was built on a dedicated team of instructors trained by Spanish teachers from Costa Rica, introducing high standards of language education and laying a solid foundation for the industry.

In 2004, due to health concerns, Paul Martin stepped away from the business, entrusting the thriving NSS locations to his loyal coordinators. In 2005, inspired to further personalize the learning experience and driven by their passion for teaching, Sandra and María Lidia founded what would become SOL Spanish School in the heart of Granada. The name SOL, meaning “sun” in Spanish and standing for Seeds of Learning, symbolizes enlightenment, growth, and the spreading of knowledge. Their vision was to create an institution that offered high-quality Spanish instruction while embracing cultural immersion and community engagement as integral parts of the learning process.

 Since 2020, Sandra’s daughter, Verónica Espinoza, has passionately continued this legacy. Under her leadership, the school upheld its tradition of excellence, expanding programs and adapting to the evolving needs of students while maintaining the core values established by her mother.

Lyndon, captivated by Nicaragua’s rich culture and the warmth of its people since his first visit in 2005, chose to make Nicaragua his home. In 2006, he founded the Viva Spanish School in Managua, driven by his passion for Latin America and a desire to foster cross-cultural connections. Together, Carlos and Lyndon envisioned NSLS as a program blending American-style efficiency, punctuality, and service quality with authentic Nicaraguan cultural immersion—a philosophy fundamental to NSLS’s growth and stellar reputation.

Their collaborative efforts provided invaluable opportunities for Nicaraguans—including teachers, host families, transporters, and dance instructors—to share the Spanish language and Nicaraguan culture with students worldwide.

Recognizing their shared commitment to educational excellence and cultural exchange, SOL Spanish School and NSLS proudly fused in 2025, leading to a dynamic rebranding as SOL de Nicaragua Spanish Schools (SOLNSS). This strategic union united two pillars of Spanish language education in Nicaragua, combining SOL’s deep cultural roots and personalized teaching methods with NSLS’s innovative approach and operational excellence.
